Cosmopolitan Magazine

Cosmopolitan is an American monthly magazine focusing on fashion and entertainment. The first issue was published in New York in 1886, and was a family magazine. Since 1965, it has became a women's magazine, formally titled as The Cosmopolitan.

Front Cover

The front cover of this issue of Cosmopolitan features RuPaul, an American drag queen, singer, actor and television personality. She is placed in the center of the magazine with herself taking up the majority of the cover. This highlights the importance of herself in the magazine and draws the readers' attention directly towards her. The detail on the magazine is kept to a minimum, with the cover lines being spaced out, not cluttered. From this, the magazine encourages the audience to get a full idea of the topics at a first glance. This is a useful strategy to attract non-frequent readers as they will quickly get an idea of the features of the magazine. The background is a plain gradient blue colour which contrasts with the font and colour of the cover lines and the masthead, which is a hot pink colour . These are stereotypically feminine colours which usually features on a woman's fashion and entertainment magazine. The selective colour palette suggests that the target audience of this magazine are women aged 16-25.
