A Simple Favour is a film which does not fall specifically into one genre of film, which I like about it considering it sets it apart from other movies and allows the director to have more freedom as there aren’t as many limitations as there would be if it was set in a specific genre.
The movie revolves around Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick) who is a stay at home mom who creates blog posts and Emily Nelson (Blake Lively) who works for an international fashion designer. Despite the women being complete opposites - Emily being a rich, mysterious character who loves a Martini and Stephanie being a regular yet over protective single mom - they are brought together by a rather quick friendship through their sons having a playdate. But when Emily suddenly goes missing, Stephanie finds herself entangled in a web of secrets, lies and dark pasts.
The film takes many twisted detours and deceptions and develops at a pace which keeps your attention thorough as you too, embark on this journey to uncover the dark secrets of Emily’s life. It is a really gripping movie until the end, and one thing I really enjoy about it is that there is no one set opinion on each of the character, everybody is about to draw their own conclusions, leaving this film a great topic to debate with others.
