Audience Appeals

The 2019 matalan christmas advert feautures a range of well-known celebrities endorsing the products of matalan christmas clothes so if the audience admires these people then they may be more likely to buy the product which would be aimed at aspirers because they are driven by others' perceptions of them and if famous people have the product they would be more likely to buy the items to potientially feel like they fit in with the celebs and have that sort of status too. It may also appeal to aspirers as they are the type of people that respond to 'superficial' things like fashion and appearance so if they like the look of the clothes which are being worn by the famous people they will be more inclined to buy the products.

The children and dog featured appeals to the need to nurture, potentially it could encourage parents to buy gifts from matalan because they can see how happy it makes the children and it could make their children feel the same way. In the advert it includes the prices of some of the clothes being worn are they are all under £20 which could aim this advert at people on more of a budget at this time or just wanting to spend less. The prices mentioned could also appeal to mainstreamers who respond to value for money so they may enjoy this too.

The 2020 Disney Christmas advert would appeal to many people as it shows a person growing up which many can relate too, it uses emotional branding to make people invested in the advert, it gets quite upsetting in the middle making people sad before becoming more joyful and positive at the end which uplifts spirits which is what Christmas is all about. They use the mickey mouse toy which is something the two main characters bond over to show the importance of Disney to everyone's lives as it brings people together.

Disney can be classed as a family brand which mainstreamers would like and respond too as they centre themselves within their extended families as well, their life choices are 'we' rather than 'me' and as the advert shows the toy bringing the 2 characters together the advert would be likely to appeal to them.

The use of the child at the start of the advert alongside the dog appeals to the need to nurture and parents probably respond to this which would encourage them to buy the product.
