Call me by your name- Film review

Call me by your name is a 2017 romance/drama film that is adapted from the 2007 book by André Aciman; the film itself is set in 1983 as is directed by Luca Guadagnino. Call me by your name was able to win multiple awards such as Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, Independent Spirit Award for Best Cinematography etc..

Moving on from this, the main characters consist of a 17 year old teenager called Elio who is on a holiday with his mother and farther, played by Timothée Chalamet, and a 24 year old American grad student called Oliver, who is visiting to work with Elio's father; Oliver being played by Armie Hammer.

We are introduced to both as they begin a brief yet passionate relationship that lasts only a couple of weeks within the summer of Italy in secret of both their family and friends.

Furthermore, we are able to see a relationship that possibly all of the audience hope lasts more than just one summer.

However, the drama portion of the film begins to increase as it is revealed to the audience as well as Elio that his father shares the same opinions as well as feelings towards both males and females. Furthermore, the beginning of a tragic heartbreak begins as Oliver betrays Elio, deciding to leave unannounced not only betraying Elio's trust but further breaking his heart. As the film reaches its end one of the arguably most emotional scenes and best acted scenes is shown as Elio learns that Oliver has chosen to marry a woman back in America.

Moving on from this and looking more towards the other aspects of the movie, the budget of the film was smaller than originally planned, being cut rom 12 million to 3.4 million; this possibly lowering the expectation of the outcome as well as the filming schedule being cut from 12 to 5 weeks.

However, in contrast to this, the film itself was supported by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Activities and Tourism. Due to the film being supported by this it will give the movie hope that it will till be good as well as a possible expectation from the audience.
