This RSPCA advert is one of the most heart-breaking Christmas Adverts of the season – and it highlights a very important message not just at Christmas, but all year around.
It tells the story of Woody, an abandoned toy dog who has been created to represent the thousands of animals taken in by the animal welfare charity every year.
The ad, which is raising awareness of the organisation's Kindness at Christmas appeal, shows Woody being abused, abandoned and thrown out with a pile of rubbish before he is rescued and cared for by RSPCA volunteers. It finishes by showing a real-life Woody who has been adopted into a loving home.
Since its release in 2017, the video has been a big hit with animal lovers around the UK. It has racked up almost 400,000 views on Facebook, with many viewers praising the clip as 'the best Christmas ad yet'. Others have commented that the moving campaign has left them in tears.
Deborah Caffull, manager at RSPCA Birmingham Animal Centre, where part of the ad was filmed, said the sentiment behind Woody's story is 'very real'.
An acoustic cover of Simply Red's song 'Stars', performed by RSPCA worker Lucy Ellie, features as the soundtrack. Proceeds from the single are being donated to the charity, which expects to take in 19,000 animals every winter.
*I struggled all weekend trying to find a good charity advert that makes me cry, or made me feel any emotion at all, so I'm really hoping you show this one in lesson*
