Almost all big brands and companies release a festive advert around Christmas time, but why are some more memorable than others?
On the 2nd November this year, Aldi released the first part of a two-part advert following the story of Kevin the Carrot- who also appeared in Aldi's Christmas adverts in 2016 and 2017. He's driving a coco-cola style van, when he gets hit by an avalanche of snow and is left stranded. The use of a cute and humorous character makes the advert memorable and easily appeals to those of all ages. Moreover, the alliteration in the name, 'Kevin the Carrot' also adds to the memorability of the advert and even if viewers don't remember the brand, they'll remember the character.
Around a week later, the second part of the advert was released, where the story continues and Kevin rescues his children and girlfriend from Pascal the Parsnip. The element of a storyline is typical of the more popular Christmas adverts, similar to the annual John Lewis adverts.
The use of a cute character mainly appeals to children, but the humour in the advert can also possibly appeal to adults. Aldi are also releasing merchandise based on these characters, due to it's success.
In conclusion, this is a fun and light-hearted Christmas advert that many people will remember.
