From the masthead, it is evident that the Daily Star is a red top tabloid. Featuring on the masthead is a slogan which reads ‘Home of the page 3 girl’, in reference to topless women who appear in the newspaper naked, to which the tabloid seems to take pride in. As the masthead is in red, it wants the audience to take more notice of it. The story following the masthead is about Love Island star Olivia Attwood, focusing on personality as well as creating a shocking storyline for readers, which is the norm especially for red top tabloids. Moreover, it is also a close to home story as Love Island is well known around the UK.

The main story of the tabloid is the Sarah Harding story and about her alcoholism, to which is worded in a way that will shock the Daily Star’s audience. The subheading insinuates that the newspaper does not have any empathy for Sarah Harding as it can be seen as invasive as well as controversial, which is not anything new for tabloids such as the Daily Star.

Each story on this front cover explores different areas and stories. In contrast to the Sarah Harding story, the story which covers the Manchester bombings is grammatically correct and does not use any controversial language to talk about the matter as it is a story of meaningfulness. The face of the story is Noel Gallagher, suggesting personality as he is well known.

Furthermore, the tabloid is extremely close to home with its different stories. The heading ‘At last... summer on way’ is obviously a proximity story because it’s covering British weather.
