I can confidently say that the tv show that had the biggest impact on my life was gravity falls.
Gravity Falls is an American mystery comedy cartoon series created by Alex Hirsch that premiered on June 15, 2012 and ran until February 15, 2016.
The show follows the lives of Dipper and Mabel Pines, a pair of twin siblings who had come to a town in Oregon called Gravity Falls to stay with their estranged great uncle (Grunkle) Stan Pines, who had turned his house into a tourist trap called the mystery shack and hired the kids to work there. Despite their Uncle’s claims to the contrary, Dipper eventually notices the oddities that occur within the strange town, eventually finding an old, abandoned journal labelled ‘3’, detailing the authors experiences with the strange creatures within gravity falls and his own descent into paranoia. Dipper realizes that the Author disappeared under mysterious circumstances 30 years prior and begins a search to find him.
Throughout the 2 seasons they face many challenges such as various supernatural creatures, human enemies, their own personal fears about growing up and facing the world around them, and a dream eating demon bent on enslaving and ruining earth for his own gain.
In addition to the main show, Alex Hirsch also produced various shorts including :
Dippers guide to the unexplained
Mabel's guide to life
Fixin it with Soos.
Tv Shorts
Mable's Scrapbook
These shorts were produced in between seasons 1 and 2, riding off of the success of the first season. The first series, 'Dippers guide to the unexplained' ran from October 14th to October 18th 2013 and consisted of 6 episodes.
Mabel's guide to life ran from February 3rd to February 7th 2014 and had 5 episodes.
Fixin it with soos had two episodes that released on the 21st and the 22nd of April 2014
The pilot episode of Gravity falls recently passed its 10 year anniversary and as a gift, Alex Hirsch decided to upload some of the email conversations he had with Disney's censorship department during the time that gravity falls was in production, and these emails show just how far he was willing to go to have even a tiny hint of LGBTQ representation (Sherriff blubs and deputy Derland are hinted to be gay) among other things
The reason I call this show a life changer is because for me it was. When the show aired, I was young, but I was going through a lot, going from therapist to therapist, trying to ignore what I was going through in school, and trying to pretend everything was fine. But gravity falls gave me an opportunity to put that all behind me and to just be a kid again, watching kids my age fighting their monster of the week and forgetting everything bad that had happened to me that day, even if it was just for a little while.
Gravity Falls was always something I could go back too, even when I didn’t really have anything else going for me.
So Thank you Alex Hirsch, and the rest of the team behind Gravity Falls, for producing the show that changed not only my life, but the lives of so many other kids just like me.
