i-D magazine is a British bio monthly magazine centering around fashion, music, art and youth culture. The magazine was founded by previous Vogue art director Terry Jokes in 1980.


Magazine Analysis

This issue of i-D magazine features City Girls, an American hip-hop duo. Just like all of i-D magazine covers, the models have one eye shut, which is a memorisable representative of the brand and their logo. However, as stated by the magazine, this is a symbol of how you should not judge somebody by their face value. The black and white layout showcases maturity and simplicity, which are prominent ideologies of the magazine. We can see from this that the target audience could be women in the age range of 16-40 are interested in high fashion, but this can also reach a male audience due to the creativity and regular male star features. The magazine issue does not have any cover lines or stories so the readers are directed to the features of the magazine.

The simple yet powerful website description states “The original fashion and style Bible” highlights the magazine’s ideologies. Many Christians associate the Bible with guidance and an answer to life. By religiously relating to this, i-D gives the idea to viewers that the magazine is the guidance to style and fashion, which places importance towards the magazine and makes the viewers as valuable. Like many other fashion magazine websites, the background is plain white, including the UH header and footer. This adds a professional and elegant appearance to the website and contrasts with the images, something which is highly important for fashion magazines as the interest of viewer's are fashion, they would need to see the ideas visually as well as text to support the image and the viewer's ideas.
