In The Dark Podcast

This podcast is hosted by Madeline Baran. There are two seasons of the podcast - both follow the same format of focusing on one true crime case - which they analyse and point out the flaws in the solving of the case - and even helping to solve the case themselves!

Series 2 focuses on the case of Curtis Flowers, a man who has been tried 6 times for the same crime over 21 years. Throughout the 21 years, Curtis Flowers maintained his innnocence and continued to win appeal after appeal, until the prosecutor tries the case again.

The first episode of the series focuses on the crime itself. It begins with a teaser of the episode - showing their investigation and how dedicated they are to the case as they are walking through a tunnel full of water. The show starts with the host describing how she knew about this case. She then immediately begins to talk about Curtis Flowers - jumping straight into the case. This suggests how this podcast is focused and the audience can quickly start learning about the case.

She goes into detail about the different people involved in this case - even talking about the district attorney's promises when campaigning for their role, which contradict his actions during this case (which the audience will realise as the case is explored in more detail).

In the series, she talks face to face with the witnesses and slowly unravels the flaws in the case. Throughout, she is very determined to find the true story and why Curtis Flowers was tried so many times.

I think the host of this show was chosen because she is invested in the case and takes it seriously in order to find the facts. This makes it more enjoyable for the audience to listen to as it is structured and well put together - she talks clearly and in an order that's easy to follow.

The target audience is most likely adults - any gender - who are interested in true crime and who want to learn why cases go unsolved. This podcast is very informative about the cases it focuses on - some audience members may enjoy this podcast because they are interested in the case it goes into detail about.
