John Bird:
Bird was a member of the Worker’s Revolutionary Party in the 1970s, a Trotskyist group in Britain.
In March 2007, he ran for Mayor of London as an independent candidate but changed his mind the next year. He refused the offer to run as a candidate for the Tories, in place of Boris Johnson who went on to win the election.
Bird was a Social Enterprise Ambassador, a scheme run by the Social Enterprise Coalition, to promote awareness of social enterprise. Which was supported by the part of the Cabinet Office called the Office of the Third Sector and ran between 2007-2010.
He has self-described himself as a working-class Tory in 2010, finding issues with their gullibility and stupid ideas, but praising them for kindness.
He was made a non-party political people’s peer, in 2015 he was created Baron Bird, sitting as a Crossbencher in the Upper House. He focuses on Dismantling the root causes of poverty in the UK, with an emphasis on the well-being of future generations, early intervention and prevention.
The Body shop does not test on animal, and its ingredients were sourced directly from producers.
Roddick became gradually more critical of both businesses broadly and the cosmetic industry. She didn’t like the environmental insensitivity of the cosmetic industry.
She wanted a lack of discrimination in the workplace, usage of renewable energy to combat climate change.
The Roddicks founded the Body Shop Foundation in 1990, which supports human, civil rights, environmental and animal protection.
Ending Youth homeless is something both companies aim to do.
The Body Shop UK have donated nearly 400,000 products to the NHS, including soaps and Hemp Hand Protectors.
