John Bird: from the nest to the skies.

John Anthony Bird, Baron Bird, MBE (born 30 January 1946) is a British Social entrepreneur who co-founded the Big Issue magazine. its a magazine that is edited by professional journalists and sold by street vendors who are homeless or in a vulnerable state.


He himself was homeless from age five, and would reside in an orphanage between the age of seven and ten. yet would continue to be homeless soon after, where he would begin to commit petty crimes, this led to his imprisonment which would give him an education. This allowed him to set up small-scale printing and publishing businesses in london.


By september 1991 he launched the Big Issue with Gordon Roddick which aimed to help the homeless, like Bird once was.. By 1995 he furthered this business by launching The Big Issue Foundation to support vendors of The Big Issue to a greater extent.


in the 70's, Bird was a member of the workers revolutionary party which is a Trotskyist group in britain. He claims to be a working class Tory
