Ken Loach: The Grandfather of social realism


There are few men in britian let alone dirctors that are as well respected and acclaimed as Mr Ken Loach. Kenneth Charles Loach was born 17 June 1936 in Nuneaton, England. Loach is known for his distinct directorial style that presents the facts as is with little glamerisation or fanfare. They often deal with the harsh realities of life in britian such as Kes, I,Daniel Blake and his latest film Sorry We Missed You. This style is of film making is often known by the name social realism and is a popular mode of film making amongst particulary british indie filmmakers. His filmography includes:

Loach has won 1 bafta for outstanding british film in 2016 for IDB. despite his acclaim he has never been nominatd for or won an Oscar however in 2016 he was made a member of the American accadamy of motion picture arts and science.


Loachs films have often provoked change in the law. His film cathy come home caused a change in the law for homelessness and IDB could be seen to have influenced the large increase n labour votes during the 2017 general election.
