magazine research : vogue

Founded in 1892 as a weekly high-society journal, Arthur Baldwin Turnure created Vogue. Later, in 1988, Anna Wintour became editor and transformed Vogue into what it is today: a global phenomenon. Wintour also created Teen Vogue and Men’s Vogue, further expanding Vogue’s audience. Today, it is one of the most popular fashion magazines, covering fashion, beauty, culture, living, and runway. Anna Wintour is now the main editor of the magazine and helped revitalise by making it more approachable to a younger audience overseeing some of vogues largest editions.

Assumedly, Vogue caters towards the Aspirer from the 4Cs model, however because of the esteemed and prestigious reputation of the magazine, it may also be catered towards the mainstream as it is practically a household name. In this cover involving A-list celebrity Rihanna, she is seen wearing an all-white suit paired with what is presumably a black headscarf. This is a nod to Rihanna's culture and her community as a black woman; Vogue is known for encouraging diversity amongst celebs. The taglines all relate to women's news, which is unsurprising as Anna Wintour is an advocate for women's issues, and reads "Playful Prints, Goddess Gowns, The Luxe White Tux" which hones in on the fashion aspect of the magazine.

Vogue Magazine's website is extremely plain and easy to navigate, with a hot bar at the top of the website with all the navigational sections. It is clear that Vogue is mainly centred around the fashion industry and their own runway shows. Since their first publication, Vogue has expanded to become the most well-known and prestigious fashion magazine in the world, with Anna Wintour being the world's most looked-to fashion designer. Wintour is known for running her event the Met Gala, in which only the most relevant celebrities are invited, and the connotation to Vogue only boost the magazine in terms of popularity.
