Rolling Stone, published by Penske Media Corporation (PMC), is a popular music magazine. Penske Media Corporation are an american publishing and digital media company based in both New York City and Los Angeles. Including Rolling Stones, PMC owns 20 digital and print magazines and brands, such as WWD, Deadline Hollywood, Variety, etc. The company was founded in 2003 by Jay Penske.

Rolling Stone is a music magazine focused mostly on Rock, however, they are also known for talking about blues, pop, hard rock, and rock and roll. The genre conventions that are revealed to us show that Rolling Stone is typical of a music magazine, including images of big, influential music stars such as Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, etc.

Usually, the front cover is kept minimal and simple. In the Billie Eilish cover, we see a large close-up image with small text in the bottom right corner. This will appeal to Billie Eilish’s large fanbase and others who are interested in pop music. The close-up image highlights Billie as a character of power and influence, as she takes up the entire cover of a popular magazine. The close-up shots seem to be a common theme throughout the different Rolling Stone magazines, as seen in the Taylor Swift cover too.

This magazine appeals to its target audience by using images of highly respected music artists who have a large fanbase. These images will bring in new readers due to creating editions based on their favourite music artist.
