Me Before You - Film review

The film Me Before You is about a young woman Louisa Clark (Lou) on a job hunt after her minimum wage cafe job let her go due to closure, she embarks on a job of becoming a carer for a wealthy family who resides in her small seaside village. She happens to care for William Traynor, who was a successful banker and had an active lifestyle before a motorbike accident left him mostly paralysed from the neck down. The film goes on and spirals into their romance and topics of suicide and the debate of. wether one should be able to kill themselves, it turns out Clark is on a journey of love and saving Will's life before he makes the final decision to end it all and time is running out.

The film is a romantic comedy, as it shows the hardships and the mistakes Clark makes with her little to none experience of being a carer and her minuscule common sense as she is gullible but lovable to the audience. Louisa Clark is played by Emilia Clarke, a known uk actor who starred in films such as Terminator Genisys and Solo: A Star Wars Story. Her acting is emotional and realistic as she brings real life problems to light in the film. William Traynor (Will) is played by Sam Clafin, who stars in a similar genre and style of film called Love, Rosie. His acting is realistic and heartbreaking as he portrays a suicidal paralysed man, which could've been easily messed up but played the role so well and connected to the audience with the characters issues and difficult topics throughout the film swell as being funny and relatable.

The soundtrack of the rom com is very mixed as there is a variety of happy. up-beat songs and tear jerkers.. Many of the songs are well known, such as the song used called 'The Sound' by The1975, which would relate to a younger audience as the upbeat pop-indie band is listened to widely by teens which would bring in a younger audience as well as being a catchy song. To contrast, one of the slower, sad songs used ('Unsteady' by X Ambassadors) is a depressing beautiful songs as the singer sings about mental health and how they're feeling but with melodies and harmonies which makes the song beautifully sad which is a way you could describe the film, I feel this song perfectly fits to this film and the directors put thought into the emotion of the audience with the song added to the film.

In conclusion, in my opinion this film is so beautiful but ironic as it shows the beauty of falling in love and how amazing life can be but ironic as Will's life may be beautiful but its not what he wants, as he feels his. life is ruined by his accident. This romance holds emotion and passion even on tough topics such as suicide but still keeps a light hearted tone, which I think is such a good thing to have on a film which has such a sad but peaceful and beautiful ending.
