'Media That's Changed MY Life' (COMPLETED)

Okay, so I had to think long and hard about this one, due to the fact that media hasn't really touched my emotions as much as everybody else makes out. But I have come to a conclusion.... MUSIC. Myself, I have a very expansive, DIVERSE taste in pretty much everything: whether it be aesthetic, films, music, etc. Believe me, ask everyone I know they'll agree!

I know music from as far as the 20s - Now, but I mainly listen to 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s (80s is the best time periods for music). Between there is probably the time were music peaked, in my opinion. But from the 90s-NOW, music has started to slowly stoop to a new low - but don't get me wrong there are a lot of great modern music and bands that I like, but I'm sorry the oldies are the greatest.

So, here's my... brief favourites from every decade:

50S + 60S:

I'm doing these together because despite being from different decades, the style of music - Jazz - is pretty much the same.

Just to list a few, these are the ones I'd consider my favourites (I imagine if you played them off Youtube you'd heard them before): I Wanna Be Loved By You - Helen Kane (aka Betty Boop (this song actually came out in 1928, but I just wanted to mention it here)), Que Sera Sera + Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps + Dream A Little Dream Of Me by Doris Day, Who's Sorry Now - Connie Francis, Cry Me A River + Sway + Why Don't You Do Right by Julie London, Fever by Peggy Lee, Poison Ivy by The Coasters, Tonight You Belong To Me - The Lennon Sisters, See Ya Later Alligator + Shake, Rattle and Roll + Rock Around The Clock by Bill Haley And The Comets, My Baby Just Cares For Me + I Put A Spell On You + Feeling Good by Nina Simone, Shake Senora + Banana Boat Song by Harry Belefonte, Only You by The Platters, I Get Around + Good Vibrations + Wouldn't It Be Nice by The Beach Boys, Let Her Dance by Bobby Fuller Four, and (of course) A LOT of songs by The Beatles - what type of scouser would I be if I didn't listen to the best British band of all time?!?!. Again just to name a few...

{Actually there's a funny story involving Bill Haley; my parents and I were watching the movie Crawl (2019) for the first time a few months back, decent film, and we were took hilariously by surprise at the fact that See Ya Later Alligator was the end credit song. As sson as it played we burst out laughing, because it was such a serious narrative and then Bill Haley just came out of nowhere - it completely changed the atmosphere. It was hilarious}.

Now I figure a lot of youngster, my fellow classmates included, may not have heard of the mass majority of these I've listed. However you are bound to recognise some, hence they've been in films:

* Poison Ivy - The Coasters: FUN FACT, in Batman and Robin (George Clooney, Uma Thurman, etc) the scene were Uma Thurman (Poison Ivy) is dancing in the auction, the music she is dancing to was inspired by The Coasters - my Dad pointed it out to me one day- and you can tell. Compare them for yourself.

* Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps - Doris Day and Who's Sorry Now - Connie Francis: featured on Disney's Cruella (2020) soundtrack.

* Cool Jerk - The Capitols: The song that Kevin's uncle was singing in the shower from Home Alone 2: Lost In New York.

70S:

The beginning of 'Rock and Roll', aka My Dad's favourite Era. Thanks to my father (and mother in some cases... *cough* The Osmonds, specifically Donny), I've been introduced to a fair share of poppin' 70s bops: The Osmond Bros, The Jacksons, AC/DC, Alice Cooper, Simon and Garfunkel, The Sweet, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Beegees, ABBA, Kiss, The Clash, Talking Heads, Blondie, Electric Light Orchestra (ELO (One of Me and my Dad's favourite bands)), Steve Miller Band, Earth Wind and Fire, Foreigner, Sparks, Wizzard, ..... dare I go on.

I'll just post a couple of my favourite songs, you'll know way more 70s (I'd have thought):

{{{SPARKS - THIS TOWN AIN'T BIG ENOUGH FOR THE BOTH OF US}}} I love the brother with the Hitler stache on piano, he looks so done with life. He makes me and my Dad laugh everytime we watch this video.

{{{THE SWEET - FOX ON THE RUN/BLOCKBUSTER}}} Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 Trailer, that's where you know it from.

{{{DON'T BRING ME DOWN - ELO}}} This is one of those songs featured in many movies and tv shows, its overused but you know what it's a tune so I don't blame them.

{{{ANGEL FINGERS - WIZZARD}}}

{{{ROAD TO NOWHERE - TALKING HEADS}}}

{{{BRIGHT EYES - ART GARFUNKEL}}} My comfort song. And it's also that song from WatershiP Down; a charming family classic about rabbits running to a new home, whilst murdering each other and being hunted by dogs that tear them limb from limb. Yes, that exists, AND SOMEHOW IT'S STILL CONSIDERED A U?!?!?!?!

80S (My Favourite Decade.... SQUEEEEEE):

80s is just the best time period all together, for music, films, culture, style, aesthetic, EVERYTHING. I may as well just dive right into examples, I love way too many: Erasure (My favourite), The Cure, Michael Jackson, Jon and Vangelis, Duran Duran, Bon Jovi, Wham!, Human League, Depeche Mode, Teras For Fears, Spandau Ballet, David Bowie, Simple Minds, A-HA, Eurythmics, REM, 10CC, New Order, Bananarama, Pet Shop Boys, The Police, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Black Sabbath, Genesis, Kylie Minogue, Boney M, The Bangles, REO SPEEDWAGON, The Cutting Crew, Army of Lovers, Sarah Brightman, Village People, Ultravox, Justin Hayward, Peter Gabriel, AND MANY MORE.

Every time my family throws family gatherings, weddings me and my parents dance all night to 70s and 80s music, it's traditional.

Here's a few of my favourite bops for you to sing along and boogie too:

{{{DRAMA - ERASURE}}}

{{{CHARLOTTE SOMETIMES - THE CURE}}} This one was written after a book of the same name, it's a very good book actually.

{{{GHOSTS - MICHAEL JACKSON}}}

{{{I LOST MY HEART TO A STARSHIP TROOPER - SARAH BRIGHTMAN}}}

{{{PERSONAL JESUS - DEPECHE MODE}}}

{{{I JUST DIED IN YOUR ARMS TONIGHT - THE CUTTING CREW}}}

{{{CRUCIFIED - ARMY OF LOVERS}}}

{{{SLEDGEHAMMER - PETER GABRIEL}}} My famous Karaoke song

90S - NOW:

Like I said previous, it's not that I'm saying modern music is bad I just prefer 50s-80s music. But that doesn't mean there's not any bands/singers that I do still love: Studio Killers, Panic! At The Disco, Fall Out Boy, Marina And The Diamonds, Parov Stelar, Within Temptation, Nightwish, Bastille, Imagine Dragons, Ghost BC, Dark Sarah, Blackmore's Night, Loreena Mckennitt, Backstreet Boys, Sopor Aeternus, Lady Gaga, Scissor Sisters, Nirvana, Weezer, Green Day, Soundgarden, Florence + The Machine, Blur, Goo Goo Dolls, The Offspring, Linkin Park, Avenged Sevenfold, DAgames, JT Music, Tryhardninja, Arctic Monkeys, Twenty One Pilots, Muse, Evanescence, Bring Me The Horizon, Disturbed, MGMT, Anarbor, Mindless Self Indulgence, Innerpartysystem, Weathers, Sub Urban, Melanie Martinez, Jazmin Bean, Stromae, Combination, Indila, GO_A..... AND MANY MANY MORE.

I mainly like the more underrated and indie music that, to be honest, deserves way more attention;

{{{DIRTY CAR - STUDIO KILLERS}}}

{{{HOUSE OF MEMORIES - PANIC! AT THE DISCO}}}

{{{SQUARE HAMMER - GHOST BC}}}

{{{DEMON DANCE - PAROV STELAR}}}

{{{SHUM - GO_A}}}

ORCHESTRAL/SCORES:

Believe it or not I'm one of the only youngsters to still listen to 1800s orchestra music, that and movie soundtracks as well. Whenever I'm writing stories or doing homework, instrumental music helps me to visualize and concentrate on my work. Classical music composer I admire are the usual: Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, Vivaldi, Wagner, Liszt, Grieg, Verdi, Prokofiev, Rossini, Straus, Piccini, Bizet, Camille Saint-Seans is a particular favourite of mine; I like how gothic his music is.

However, I have many favourite film composers too: Danny Elfman (Tim Burton Films, Coraline), Hans Zimmer (Kung Fu Panda Series, Dune), Elliot Goldenthal (Batman and Robin, Interview With The Vampire, The Tempest), John Williams (Harry Potter Series, Jurassic Park), Trevor Jones (The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth), James Newton Howard (Peter Pan 2003, Lady In The Water), Alan Silvestri (Avengers 2012, Night At The Museum Trilogy), Thomas Newman (WALL-E, The Green Mile), Randy Newman (The Princess And The Frog, James And The Giant Peach), Elmer Bernstein (Ghostbusters, Airplane!), Harry Gregson-Williams (Narnia Trilogy, Shrek Series, Early Man), Alan Menken ('A Good Few Disney Films', Mirror Mirror), John Powell (How To Train Your Dragon Trilogy, Ice Age Series), Hildur Guðnadóttir (JOKER).

Although, after much consideration, my favourite movie soundtrack song is 'Fairy Dance' - James Newton Howard from Peter Pan (2003) (a movie where I could write a full review on it's greatness).

{{{FAIRY DANCE - PETER PAN 2003}}}

I feel like I should include those internet/Youtube composers who I listen to who do really high quality composer stuff: Peter Gundry, Derek and Brandon Fiechters, Ean Grimm, Frost Studio, Samuel Kim, L'Orchestra Cinematique, Lucas King. You should definitely check these guys out and subscribe, they really deserve it.

{{{THE VAMPIRE MASQUERADE - PETER GUNDRY}}}

{{{DANCE OF SHADOWS - FIECHTERS}}}

{{{FREAKS - LUCAS KING}}}

So there ya have it. HAVE FUN LISTENING TO ALL THE MUSIC XD

If I could go back in time I'd go back to these time periods, experience the time, and boogie in the clubs to these bangers of songs when they were considered popular. It's sad not enough old music is played now a days...
