Billie is a singer and a song writer alongside her older brother Finneas. Despite music being alternative she has become very mainstream and popular to a huge audience with hit songs such as ‘bad guy’ and ‘ocean eyes’ which she recorded at the young age of 14 years old. Billie, being so mainstream, has a very wide target audience. While she does attract a younger audience of early teens her music definitely targets slightly older adult teens.
‘When the party's over’ is a very abstract and unique music video, like most of Billie's music videos. Also, simplistic in the idea. In line with her soft humming, we the camera angle pans out to reveal a glass of black liquid with Billie in a white room also wearing white clothing of her recognizable style of baggy clothes and chains sitting in front of it. The music continues to play as she proceeds to pick up the glass she begins to sing along with the lyrics and then proceeds to drink it.
After this, the camera angle shifts to a close up of her face. With this the performative style comes in much like a lot of Billie's music videos are performative and a lot don’t focus on a narrative.
Also, her abstract style continues when she starts to cry out black liquid. There is a creepy eerie feeling of this music video that makes the audience slightly uncomfortable. Especially with the ending that pan down from her to the cup the bottom of the table where we see black liquid pour out onto the floor leaving the viewer questioning and disturbed.
On this front cover of GQ, as suspected Billie takes up the majority of the front cover. Her expression is limited which could represent her soft voice and neutral tone. Also, Billie is recognized for her hair, especially the green roots as seen in this magazine cover.
They have used this green colour throughout the cover making her outfit and clothes green and the copy. Also, the magazine name ‘GQ’ and ‘Billie Eilish’ copy is in a transitioning colour from yellow to green which may represent her dyed hair. Even the blurred background where we can see a bit of yellow has impacted the front cover as some of the copy is also in yellow.
