Music Marketing - Blossoms

Blossoms are an indie band from Stockport in Manchester. They formed in 2013, consisting of singer and frontman Tom Ogden, bassist Charlie Salt, Keyboardist Myles Kellock, Guitarist Josh Dewhurst, and drummer Joe Donovan. The are known for the indie bangers combined with their witty lyricism and fun live shows. After releasing their self titled debut album in 2016 which peaked at number 1 in the UK charts, the fourth single Charlemagne has become their standout song accumulating over 120 million streams on Spotify and peaking at 98 in the UK singles charts. It is also a platinum certified single gaining the reputation as a modern indie "classic". Throughout their career they have been signed to major label Virgin EMI Records until they left their deal and formed their own record label ODD SK Recordings. The name is a nod to the postcode of their hometown but also the initials of the last names of each member. The first single they released under this label was "To Do List" as a tester for their next album. They released their fifth album Gary on the 20th September 2024, under their record label with the self titled lead single.

The video opens with a guest appearance by Rick Astley, who delivers a monologue looking for a stolen Gorilla, knowing the context viewers will find this funny yet cheeky however to those unaware it actually gives them insight in an entertaining way. It also serves long time fans of the band who are aware Astley is a good friend to the band, known for the joint iconic Glastonbury set of The Smiths covers. The monologue pokes fun at the whole concept of the song such as "ape of few words" shows the band are self aware of how ridiculous people ma find a lead single to be about a gorilla statue. This sequence also humorously adds to the storyline of the video, where Astley says they are looking for the criminals who took the statue and will grass them to the police.

We are then introduced to a sequence of Blossoms stealing the gorilla statue.
