Music Marketing- Lana Del Rey

Lana del ray is an American singer, she has been producing music since 2005. Her wide music genre attracts a wide audience, however, usually being of an older demographic as she tends to write about more mature topics an example being the use of drugs.


In 2011 Lana's song ‘Video games’ for her major label debut born to die, led to viral success. While the video starts with a dystopian looking scene it then shifts to a clip of Lana. It is a unique music video with an old nostalgic aesthetic. The music video has clips that refer to the ‘Hollywood life’ with clips of Paz de la Huerta being followed by the paparazzi while drunk and falling to random clips of people skateboarding and people in a pool.


While there is not a cohesive storyline her camera angles of panning in on random shots and the clips of her singing that was recorded on her webcam attract the audience as it is so different from the usual music videos in pop culture.



In this magazine, there is a red theme on the front cover which is put in Lana's costume with a red lip as this is a signature, as for being the theme, this includes red writing colour and Lana holding red roses. Her makeup other than the lipstick is very subtle and soft and she is positioned in a way that makes her look very elegant. Also, her figure being the majority of the front cover also overpowers some other the magazine brand name suggesting her importance.
