Tame Impala is the music project created by Australian musician Kevin Parker. Parker writes, records, performs, and produces all of the project's music. The project specialises a psychedelic rock sound, with Parker using effects such as phasing, delay, reverb and fuzz. The music Parker produces can be described as more of an 'experience' rather than a listen, with focus and attention to the media presented being requested at all times.
The music video above is for the 2015 song 'Let it happen' and it depicts a man in an airport collapsing and going on a sort of psychedelic trip. genre conventions are present here, with the use of surrealist images and symbolic codes being present through the video. For example, when the man dies, there is imagery of him falling through clouds, symbolism for the trip to the afterlife. Drug use is also suggested via the warped imagery through the video, another genre convention.
The website is host to conventional tabs, such as tour dates and merchandise, but in the background of the site, there is a trailer for the upcoming album, featuring isolated shots of seemingly unrelated items and locations, along with Parker working an a seemingly outdated music studio. The aesthetic of the video with the grainy quality is what is expected from Tame Impala, enticing existing fans and possibly intriguing new listeners.
