Sir Elton Hercules John (formerly Reginald Dwight) began recording and writing songs in the 1960s with Dick James' DMJ records along with his long time friend and creative partner: lyricist Bernie Taupin. His name comes is a homage to two people: Long John Bauldry the lead singer of his former band bluesology, and Bluesology saxaphonist Elton Dean. John's music covers a veriaty of generes including Soft rock, Gospel, Country, glam rock and ballad but is mostly known as a pop musician. His music is still popular today amongst his established fanbase with many younger fans also being taken by his music. John has had his fair share of issues ranging from drug and alcohol abuse to his sexuality, but he remains clean to this day and is happily married to producer David Furnish and has 2 children Zackerie and Aliga.

Nikita was one of John's most popular songs of the 1980. It even featured George Michael on backing lyrics. In terms of narrative, the video plays out as the story of a man played by elton John in soviet russia who becomes infactuated with a female soldier named nikita. The video shows their romance that was never meant to be, ending with the male gaurd splitting them up, the man then returns to his home country and fantasises about what life with her could have been like. the music's lyrics mix to creat a technical code that compliments the video This creates a very bitter sweet tone. The video features a very basic colour scheme with crushing whites to overpower the audiance and create the feel of opression in soviet russia.
