The masthead is typical of a red top tabloid. The "Daily Star" is in a classic serif sans with the slogan "proud to love animals" to immediately state a reputation for itself. The cheap price of £1 as well as the website suggest it's easily assessable to a larger audience.
The headline "Brian: Why I punched a polar bear" is shocking and would bring an audience in with enigma's about why and what. Another headline is "2025 is here!", sharing a relevant event world wide that everyone would find relatable. However the humour is shortened by the "farewell DJ legend Johnnie" suggesting his passing.
The main image is Brian edited with a polar bear with boxing gloves, suggesting a light hearted tone of tabloid newspapers. It also suggests Brian as being someone you could find relatable and almost on the same level as you (the audience).
The layout is primarily photos with headlines. The mention of "free" suggests attracting an audience looking for extras. There is an absence of text representing how the paper is honest about it's less factual identity.
The use of language is key as it is clear that it's audience is treated as a close friend, with the use of "our" and the carefree tone.
The news values seem to be recency, uniqueness and simplicity.
The agenda seems to be to entertain rather than educate. Perhaps sharing some right wing ideologies with the representation of men fighting and the lack of women represented.
