The masthead “DAILY EXPRESS” is in bold, capitalised serif font, giving it a sense of tradition, authority and trust,

It includes a Union Jack symbolising British pride and reflecting the right-rising patriotic ideology. Also the masthead is placed at the top of the page, which is usually traditional for a tabloid format, ensuring readers recognise the brand.

The main headline reads “5,600 illegal migrants set to be deported to Rwanda” - it uses large, bold and capitalised text to create urgency and impact and is a classic example of an exaggerated/sensationalised headline designed to provoke strong public reaction. Additionally, the use of numbers and the word “illegal” emphasises the seriousness and frames migrants in a criminal context, which aligns with the paper’s anti-immigration stance.

The main image is covered by the headline , but we can make out some type of transport which is related to the deportation plan mentioned on the cover. The anchorage comes through the headline and frames the people pictured as a threat or burden, not victims. The image and headline paired together steers the public’s opinion towards fear, in lines with the daily express’ ideologies.

The layout is very typical of a tabloid: big masthead, bold exaggerated headline, central image and promos around the page. The story on the royal family offers a mix of hard and soft news which helps the newspaper appeal to mutilple audiences.

The language is direct and dramatic - words like “illegal” and “deported” are loaded with certainty and authority which frames migrants negativelys. The tone of the cover is sensational and urgent - designed to appeal to a wide audience, particular those with conservative views on immigration.

News Values:

Negativity - focuses on immigration as a problem which draws more attention than positive news

Elite People- involves a story on the royal family which is likely to attract more people as they’re well known.

Continuity- the deportation plan has been in the news for months, so this story follows a long-running narrative
