Obama

During his time in office, Obama worked to improve the lives of all Americans, including African Americans, by providing economic and educational opportunities, improving healthcare coverage, working to ensure that the criminal justice system is applied fairly to all citizens. One way he intended to do this was through the programme "My Brothers Keeper" which specifically focused on improving the lives of young African American males. The programme has six goals for the boys it helps: Kids who begin the program early need to be fully prepared to begin elementary school ,They then need to read at grade level by third grade, They should graduate from high school ready for college or a career, They should complete a postsecondary education program or some sort of vocational training, They should be prepared to enter the workforce and pursue their careers and all youth and young adults should be safe from violent crime, individuals who are confined should receive the education, training, and treatment they need for a second chance.Obama still remains loyal to this campaign despite it not having government funding under trump.

Trump

During trumps announcement for candidacy, he said "When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists." he also famously said “I will build a great wall—and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me—and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great, great wall on our southern border, and I will make Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words." . This shows just has dismissive trump is of people seeking a better life in America, he doesn't care about helping them he just wants them out.In August of 2015,two of his supporters beat a homeless Latino man with a metal pipe, and then urinated on him. Asked why they had done it, one of the attackers said, “Trump was right—all these illegals need to be deported.” During a press conference shortly after the attack, Trump said he hadn’t heard about the assault. All he said was "I will say, the people that are following me are very passionate. They love this country and they want this country to be great again. They are passionate.” This just shows how little security and safety ethnic minorities have under trump.

Black Lives matter

The Black Lives Matter movement was founded in 2013, after the man who shot and killed an unarmed black teenager, Trayvon Martin, was cleared of his murder. Activist, Alicia Garza, responded to the jury’s decision with a post that ended: “Black people. I love you. I love us. Our lives matter.” The hashtag was born, and continued to grow in prominence with each new incident and protest. It soon gained international recognition, after the death of Michael Brown in Missouri a year later. Since then participants in the movement have demonstrated against the deaths of numerous other African Americans by police actions or while in police custody. Black Lives Matter now describes itself as a “chapter-based national organization working for the validity of black life”. It has developed to include the issues of black women and LGBT communities, undocumented black people and black people with disabilities. There have been many reactions to the Black Lives Matter movement. The U.S. population's perception of Black Lives Matter varies considerably by race. The phrase "All Lives Matter" sprang up as a response to the Black Lives Matter movement, but has been criticized for dismissing or misunderstanding the message of "Black Lives Matter".
