'Simple Skincare' & X Factor

Simple Advert

The advertisement that I have decided to analyse is the 'Simple Skincare' advert, starring the popular girl band, Little Mix. Simple is a British brand of soap and skincare products that was launched in 1960, designed specifically for those with sensitive skin.

Although the advert is only 20 seconds long, it shows how makeup can quickly and easily be removed without irritating the skin, denoting the convenience of it. For the target audience of teenage girls, this will appeal to them due to the simplicity of the product; however, the fun and colourful packaging contrasts to this, and targets this younger audience. They will most likely idolise Little Mix, and be more likely to engage in the advert due to their appearance in it.

This advert targets the 'mainstream', as Simple is a highly popular brand, and mainstreamers are often attracted to the larger, more established companies over smaller ones. Moreover, they require a daily routine, and the product would be seen as an everyday essential to the target audience.

X Factor

First aired in 2004, X Factor is currently on its 15th series, yet still is a must-watch for many families across the country. It is a classic entertainment show, with singers of all ages coming to audition and hopefully impress the four judges, in particular head judge- Simon Cowell.

Although the show follows the same structure each year, this acts as an appeal to the family audience who are looking for easy, light hearted entertainment in their busy lives. For families with a hectic lifestyle, it is a reliable programme, and never fails to entertain. As a viewer myself, I can say that it appeals to those who want a television programme that has a simple concept and is easy to follow without much concentration.

The X Factor completely targets the mainstream category, people who mainly 'follow the crowd' when it comes to their media consumption. This group is the largest of Young and Rubicam's 4C's model, hence the huge popularity surrounding X factor, and explains why it still gets millions of people tuning in every Saturday to watch.
