The informer- BBC

This BBC television series is based around the stereotypes of Islamic Terrorists. The informer is an actor played by Nabhaan Rizwan, he is targeting the police force to take part in an undercover investigation into muslims they believe are terrorists. They target Rizwan due to his appearance and the stereotyped views of how Islamic Terrorists physically look.

Throughout the media the stereotypes are affirmed and oftern viewed as a fact not a view. Muslims are unfairly targeted for being part of the Islamic Terrorist groups that claim they are coming the crimes for the Muslim religion.

Through the news the sterotypes are often unconsciously followed. A white man who entered a mosque and proceeded to shoot and kill worshipers was only labeled as a ‘Gun Man’. This has been the case in other crimes that have been committed by white peoples, however, when a man of colour commits the same or simliar crime they are labed as terrorists. This contradicts the definition of a Terrorist which states terrorism the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims. Clearly in today’s society, the stereotypes of how am offender appears to the eye is more valued than the crime they committed.
