The Social Network – the rise of mark Zuckerberg

The social network – created in 2010 is a biographical drama depicting the rise of mark Zuckerberg and his venture of Facebook. Directed by David Fincher, the movie portrays the rise and creation of the social networking era of the internet and the rise of Facebook.

David Andrew Leo Fincher (born August 28 1962) is an American film director. His films, mostly psychological thrillers and biographical dramas, have received 40 nominations at the Academy Awards, including three for him as Best Director. The American film director is well-known for his roles in Gone girl, the game and seven. ’David Fincher's film has the rare quality of being not only as smart as its brilliant hero, but in the same way. It is cocksure, impatient, cold, exciting and instinctively perceptive.’ -Roger Ebert September 29, 2010

The social network – with a budget of 40 million USD – does an impeccable job of unravelling the life of mark Zuckerberg (Played by Jesse Eisenberg) with the cuts of the lawyer meetings to the past events.

The movie does an excellent job of showing the real-life events of Zuckerberg and his actions and the consequences that came with his actions. The 120-minute-long biographical drama shows the excellent Acting skills of Jesse Eisenberg When Mr. Eisenberg makes Mark's face go blank, the character seems scarily emptied out: it's a subtly great, at times unsettling, performance. The power of The Social Network is that Zuckerberg is a Nerd with a mission that can never be dismissed. His actions follow him with rear-ending consequences. The movie suggests that he may have built his ambivalence about human connection into Facebook's very DNA.

The characters really embrace their roles within this movie. The acting skills of actors such as Andrew Garfield an Jesse Eisenberg is amazing. These two characters especially I feel really embody their role as Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin. The way these characters develop thought the movie is a staple of the movie. Two friends yanked away from each other with the passion of becoming rich and creating the new age of social networking.

The movie, as well as telling the story of Facebook, also has a comical side to it with multiple scenes showing the comedic side of Fincher. One of my personal favorite scenes from the social network has to be where Mark is running a "Code-a-thon" Top see which programmer he will take to silicane valley. The Party like atmosphere along with the tension just to be broken by song and a big party just adds to the comedic side of the movie. It shows how the movie portrays college life in 2004.

One thing I find interesting about this movie is that it expresses the life of mark Zuckerberg in a very expressive way showing his flaws and his getups and how mark became the youngest billionaire to this day. The social network shows the stuck-up attitude of mark and follows him through his journey of the creation of Facebook.

The movie starts with a faded in medium shot of mark and his then girlfriend Erica Albright. This scene kickstarts the downfall for Zuckerberg after his girlfriend leaves him. This scene focuses on the two in the bar as mark is bragging about his achievements and aspiring about finals clubs. Albright refers to him as having “Finals club OCD” which highlights the nerdy nature of Zuckerberg. It additionally shows the humorous side of the movie by showing mark as a 'nerd' only caring out specific things that interest him whilst being completely oblivious to Erica trying to change the topic at hand. The film then cuts to a shot of mark walking home. This shot is shot with a high angle in a dark street showing the lonely, sad life of Zuckerberg.

Shortly after this shot mark then goes on to grab a beer and begins to hack the Harvard network whilst simultaneously blogging about his actions. This does an excellent job of showing marks recklessness of his actions as he fears little consequences even as he crashes the Harvard network.

Furthermore, the movie has a rather strange narrative for movies of the time. The film follows two different times one during the creation of Facebook and one a result of the creation of Facebook. This layout is quite unique as it shows the consequences running along side the actions that led to them consequences for example when mark meets the Winklevoss's it shows them being inducted into the lawsuit process. This layout allows for a rather dynamic view point perspective as it shows us the actions whilst showing the consequences.

Overall, I believe this movie does and outstanding job of depicting mark Zuckerberg rise to fame and his hardships on the way. It shows how mark has little care for the people around him only of making it to fame. It shows the hills and obstacles that Facebook as a company must face. The movie – released in 2010 – inspired the new generation programmers and coders at the time and still influence them as of today. Additionally, this movie is a favorite of mine and a go to watch for any night in. The movie offers that storyline that so many people look for and crave within a movie. It shows the core passion and interests of mark and shows how his intellectual ideas help him become the youngest billionaire to the day. In my opinion this movie is a must watch for anyone into coding or the rise of Facebook and its creators. Furthermore, I would say that this movie is one of only a few 10/10 movies released to this day.
