Wolf of Wall Street Poster Analysis

The Wolf of Wall street was released on the 17th of January 2014. The main image on the poster features the protagonist in the center of the poster, looking into the camera lense, engaging with the audience. This technique is used to show off the well known star named Leonardo DiCaprio, a household name who has a very large fanbase. Using his image on the poster will most likely persuade more people to go and see the movie due to the well known face on the poster. Focusing on Leonardo, the main character named Jordan Belfort, is wearing a smart suit which could suggest that the movie is about business or money.


On the poster, we can see that is mentions the film has received Golden Globe nominations for the best picture and best actor which could also convince more and more people to go and see the movie as the has obviously done well for the creator of the poster to theoretically boast about it.


The name of the director is in a large font as he is well known and can be considered one of the best directors of all time. People are more likely to relate the director to other films they know and love which makes them more likely to go and see the movie as it may remind them of their favourite movies, making this a classic waiting to be seen. At the top of the poster, the main actor’s name is displayed in large text, as well as him being the main image on the poster, relying on him alone to get people to buy tickets for said movie.


The poster itself contains a myriad of bright colours using a lot of different shades of yellow with could relate to the colour of coins represented in old cartoons. The colours used could suggest the film is lighthearted, most likely being a comedic film. Towards the background of the poster, there are many different things with various connotations linked to them. For example, to the left of the main character, a woman dressed in exualised clothing can be seen which may relate to the theme of the film, containing sexual elements.
