Women ghostbuster!

The 2016 movie based on ghostbuster blockbuster we can tell this is an add on to the loved ghostbuster movie as it states 'ghostbusters' in the title and also the ghost in the stop sign is a semantic code as most people have seen and know what it is and that is off of ghostbusters. Even though it is based on off the other older ghostbuster movie, this one is very different as we look at the poster. It is challenging stereotypes by having the main team as now four women.

The four women also contrasts the well know ghostbuster crew as they are all now women. This representation challenges stereotypes as women are usually represented as the damsel in distress who needs to be saved whereas in this movie, we can already see they are as strong and powerful and to some extent more powerful over men. They give a feeling of being very serious as you can see in their facial expressions. Also, in their appearance this poster challenges women stereotypes as in movies they usual wear very over sexualized outfits whereas these are wearing the outfits like the men did in the other films and not sexualized. This shows that there is no difference in the outfits women and men wear showing a sense of equality.

Too add to this, the four women in the poster all have there proton packs, which is also a symbolic code because only people who have watched the other movies will understand that that is what the crew use to trap the ghosts, and this makes them seem authoritative. Whereas the Male is holding up his fingers in the shape of a gun instead. Therefore, he is not taken as seriously than the women are as we know the women are obviously determined about their job. This is an unusual and a challenge to the contrast in men and women, as women are usually seen as the weaker less intelligent ones. However, in this instance it is the male who is probably going to be relying on the women for help.
