Zoella - David Gauntlett

Gauntlett's ideas show that we take aspects from different media and turn them into our identities. This can be in terms of ideology and beliefs and we pick an mix these from icons and celebrities in society today - we may determine these as role models.

Gauntlett may argue that Zoella acts as a role model to her younger audiences. In her old blog posts, she posted 'lookbooks' where she would take photos of her outfits and write about them. In her post about pinafores and plaits, she describes the outfit as "girly and feminine". To apply Gauntlett, there were comments her fans made of them saying they were going to try out what Zoe was wearing - this may be seen as them being genuinely interested in the clothes she wore, however some may argue that this promotes stereotypes of what it is to be a woman. Her fans may take this piece of ideology and create their identity from it - you need to wear cute pinafores in order to be girly and feminine.

This comment can also be applied to Gauntlett's identity theory. The commenter promoting their own blog can indicate that they want to be just like her. Zoella promotes this 'everydayness' about herself, and therefore shows that anyone can do what she has done. Therefore, her fans have taken this ideology and applied it to their identity.
