Zoella Judith Butler

Butler states that identity is performatively constructed by the very expressions that are said to be its results.

She also states that there is no gender identity behind the expression of gender.

She also has an idea that performativity is not a singular act but a repetition and a ritual

Throughout Zoella's blogs and vlogs she represents gender which is constructed in different ways. She presents herself as being stereotypical feminine to her audience which we can see in her videos as she talks about make up, hair and getting ready, shopping which can be seen as a effort to look good. She would hint the idea that women should do these things and have interest in them as her videos has links to websites to buy the items she said and on her blog she has a section for shopping and nay items listed have a link so we can buy them.

As Butler would say that identity is performatively constructed by the very expressions that are said to be its results as we see themes of feminine topics are constantly portrayed through her vlogs which reinforces gender performativity. This idea of traditional gender stereotypes being reinforced on the website as women needing to care about their appearances. This representation has been a key part of the Zoella brand over the years. This is shown in her style and beauty blogs. For example her vlog called 'My Everyday Winter Makeup' https://youtu.be/vn3EiuUVjBk?si=0MWoC8sdjPIJQr4u We see this representation become a main point of her brand as she has grown up over the years.
