i-D

i-D is a British bimonthly magazine published by Vice Media, focusing on fashion, music and youth culture. i-D was found by former Vogue art director Terry Jones in 1980. The first issue was published in the form of a hand-stapled fanzine with text produced on a typewriter. Despite evolving to a more typical glossy magazine, i-D has kept street style and youth culture central.

Front cover-

If you take a look at past covers of i-D you will see a common theme. Its almost always featuring a model or someone who has significant influence in fashion and they are always covering one eye whether that be simply closing it or creatively hiding the whole eye. many of i-Ds covers are also quite simplistic-which is what makes them so interesting. In this cover in particular we see that the use of colour is completely absent. this sets it apart from other magazines as they tend to use colour in order to attract a audience, the black and white implies that i-d have found a new way to attract a audience and don't need to rely on usual techniques. The cover also features Kate Moss one of Britain's most famous supermodels. Her appearance on the cover would attract a audience but also signifies the magazines importance and reputation. It also lacks cover lines, only having one again implying how it is different from popular mainstream magazines and doesn't rely on eye-catching things to sell.

Audio visual

This video in particular is very typical of i-Ds ideologies and will attract a explorer audience type that the magazine aims for. It shows new pioneering things and individuals that are changing culture and society fitting in with i-D having a genre of youth culture. This video is inspiring and encourages young women particularly young black women to get into photography, pushing society's values to enforce change. Even the set up of the video shows the photographer herself being interviewed in what looks like a set of a naturalistic photoshoot , reinforcing the genre. We also follow the photographers day to day lives to see how they capture their images.
