Curran and Seaton Power and media industries

Curran and Seaton's theory that the media is controlled by a small number of companies primarily driven by the logic of profit and power. I think you could say that the media is controlled by a small number of companies because big companies like Amazon and Google hold such power over the media, influencing people to buy their latest products through advertisement, these huge companies use their power to their advantage by receiving profit from selling products like the Echo and services like Prime.

The idea that media concentration generally limits or inhibits variety, creativity and quality. I strongly agree with this ideology because it is for definite that due to these multi-million pound companies producing similar products like Amazon and Google having similar products of the Echo and the Google Home, this shows that the media today lacks creativity and inhibits variety. However, i think that the companies clone the same idea but become competitive with quality.

The idea that more socially diverse patterns of ownership help to create the conditions for more varied and adventurous media productions. I believe that the more socially diverse patterns of ownership helps to encourage more adventurous media productions because due to 90% the media being owned by a small number of companies leads to a restriction of creativity so audiences are limited to the amount of production leading to the media becoming repetitive and homogeneous lacking in diversity in ideology. However this can be beneficial because it gives opportunities for smaller production companies to be bough and have their work seen through bigger companies, for example their work could be shown on services like Amazon Prime.
