Black Panther Cultural Context

The first comic book movie that used special effects to show of the superhero released was Superman in 1978 where the main actor is Christopher Reeve however this was from a different comic book company it still uses some of the main aspects of other comic book movies of modern day films.

However the DC movies began to be made a lot earlier the first marvel movie was not released until 2008 with iron Man which was the forefront for the start of the MCU which was hen made into a trilogy by the third release in 2013 however he as still in the MCU until endgame was released in 2019 which was the last time he was shown in the MCU there has also been 2 other trilogies in the MCU with Captain America who was brought into the MCU in 2011 which is three years after Iron Man and he had three films which ended in 2016 however the character was also still in the MCU until Avengers Endgame However there will be a 4th instalment which will be branded under the same name but not featuring the same character in the future but the release date is not yet been set. There is one other trilogy that is featured i the MCU which is Thor which was first introduced in 2011 and the third instalment which is not the final film to be released to these specific set of movies was release in 2017 but there is set to be another movie which will expand the trilogy in 2022 there are many solo films and sequels in the MCU. The MCU has now become the highest grossing franchise after the

Comic Book movies before the Black Panther never had a main character that was of colour as the very first film in the MCU had a lead American role with Robert Downey Jr in Iron Man however this film had a African American actor in the form of James Rhodes played by Terrence Howard this showed from the very start that there was still possibly a chance of a lead black role as he was one of the main characters in the film so there was a possibility for a fully main character.Even though this character changed actors for the rest of the MCU up to the most recent releases it is still an African American actor in the form of Don Cheadle. Other films in between these to movies hardly showed much change as they introduced people of colour for example Anthony Mackie's falcon and a main powerful role that is constantly recurring in the form of Samuel L Jackson playing Nick fury which shows that they are giving African Americans powerful roles in the MCU which is a good start to finally get to Black panther
