Black Panther: culture context- comic book movies




There was a rose of popularity for superheroes due to comic books. Which led them to be adapted into Saturday film serials. It started in the 1939 with the film Mandrake the Magician. The first Marvel serial to be released was the Adventures with Captain Marvel in 1941. Two years later was Batman then in 1944 Captain America and four years later Superman serial came out. There was a decline of Saturday serials due The United States Senate Subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency in the 50s, in the comic book industry. The only serial aloud was Superman and the Mole Men which was a trial for the series Adventures of Superman. Batman came out again in 1966 which was an extension on the batman television series. In 1957 Japan Shintoho produced the first film serial featuring the tokusatsu superhero character Super Giant which caused a shift in Japanese pop culture towards masked superheroes.

In the late seventies there was a wave in fantasy science fiction films due to success of Star Wars, Richard Donner's Superman in 1978. Superman was DCs first major budget feature film. After that film Spider Man by Toei Company. Other entries becoming successful in the eighties. Tim Burtons Batman came out in the 1989 with also a follow up film in 1992 had great success and help shaped DC Animated Universe.

Marvel made a film called captain America Marvel Comics did not have a theatrical release and Roger Corman's The Fantastic Four, produced solely for the legal maintenance of the film rights to the property was released neither theatrically nor on home video.




The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an American media franchise universe created for superheroes' through films and shows produced by Marvel Studios. There are 23 movies and a few shows in the MCU. We are introduced to the MCU with the first Captain America film which was released in 2011. Before the release of Captain America, we have three origin films which are Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and Thor.








Marvel started getting their success of the film Iron Man was surprising as Robert Downey Jr who plays Iron Man was a risky choice as he has been to prison over drugs an dover crimes. With Avengers End Game being the most successful Marvel movie made. What has made marvel successful is that they don't associate with one character except a range from iron man to black panther and to thanos.
