Elle is a worldwide women's lifestyle magazine, published by Hearst, that focuses on fashion, beauty, health and entertainment. The title means "she" or "her" in French, which is one of the elements which demonstrates that the target audience of this magazine is women with ages ranging from 20-40, similar to other fashion magazines on the market. From the 4C's model the psychographic audience would be both aspirers and succeeders.
Like Vogue, Elle Magazine features high fashion but the main focus is on designer lines more accessible and affordable than some of the more expensive lines like Prada, or Chanel. Elle Magazine features comprehensive and large fashion spreads as well as expansive sections on accessories and beauty.
TEXT 1 - MAGAZINE COVER
Analysis of magazine cover
This edition of Elle is set to release in September 2022 and so highlights what Elle magazines look like today. Like other editions of Elle, this magazine takes a more minimalistic approach in its design, making it appear mature and professional. The model on the front cover is Lizzo, who could be viewed as a representation for plus size women in the industry, making the magazine inclusive for all shapes and sizes. It suggests that having a good sense of style and looking good is for everyone and that no one should be excluded in the industry. Furthermore, Lizzo is a very relevant and famous artist that would be recognised by an audience looking at this front cover and so Elle displays itself as being up to date and recent with the latest trends. This is further supported by the cover line 'What to wear now', the magazine is here to offer advice and guidance to those who want to follow what's popular during this season.
On the bottom right corner it states 'how to fight back with... Jia Tolentino, Adwoa Aboah, Tarana Burke'. These women are a writer, a fashion model and an activist who all feature in this magazine showing the diversity that Elle has to offer as they all have different careers and therefore posses different skills and are also a range of ethnicity's, therefore creating more representation for a variety of different women. Additionally, the subject of this coverline is learning how to 'fight back' which indicates the range of topics covered in this magazine, showing that it is simply not just a fashion magazine, it has more to offer, possibly attracting a wider audience who are interested in other things. To add to this, on this front cover it says 'Lizzo unwrapped' and this suggests that we will find out more about Lizzo herself which would bring in a whole new audience which is her fanbase. Finally, all of the colours on this magazine link together making it appealing to the eye and the organised, decluttered look does not give too much away and possibly makes the urge to buy the magazine and see what's inside more prominent.
