This advert is about a famous alcoholic drink call Guinness. This advert shows all of the positives about drinking alcohol. However, there are many downsides to it also. For example, this advert shows the male protagonist being happy about drinking it, he is pleased and appetized. The words "Guinness gives you power" suggests that the editors of the advert want to buy the product to make you more stronger - however, the more you buy an alcoholic drink the more you are likely to be more obsessed with it which will make you have an addiction.
However, the appeal of the advert may be the need to satisfy curiosity. For example, the advert may look appetizing for those who haven't had Guinness before, making them more vulnerable and more likely to buy the product due to the manipulating way the advert presents the drink.
This advert was made in 2014, but based in 1914 Christmas. From the several close ups of this advertisement, you can clearly see the pained facial expression of the protagonist of the advert due to him missing his family. Perhaps the appeal of this advert is the need to escape. For example, the male may want to leave the battlefield in order to be with his family on Christmas. However, their is a sense of relief as later in the advert the opposing sides play football - which was invented during the war. This may make people feel heart-warmed as opposing sides who are meant to be fighting are playing a game because it is Christmas.
This make bring the audience a sense of family and bonding - the opposing sides acting like a family by acting like a family - bonding like friends.
