Background
Happiful Magazine was co-produced by two sisters, Emma and Aimi, who had a passion in wanting to help people look for local support for their mental health and wellbeing. In 2005, they founded Counselling Directory which connects people to a professional therapist in their area.
Since then, they have added four more wellness directories to their family: life coaching; hypnotherapy; nutrition; and complementary therapies. Happiful Magazine was the next step in their mission in sharing the knowledge that help and support can always be found when needed.
They're dedicated to sharing the stories, experiences, and support available for the whole of society and their values are at the core of everything they write and do.
"If we're not passionate about our work, neither will our readers be."
Front Cover
To begin with, the magazine's front cover is in minimalistic style, having a simple background colour and featuring a model, who could be someone widely known or someone unfamiliar - this could be to show that anyone and everyone can struggle with mental health.
What attracts the reader to this magazine is the masthead which is in a bright and bold font and immediately grabs our attention. It could also suggest that the magazine isn't very popular, and wants to be known.
The use of the colours aren't bright but in a slightly warm tone that creates a sense of calm for the reader. The effect of the colours correlate with the subheadings printed on the page: 'A sensual awakening', 'The road to relaxation', 'A change is gonna come', 'Every scar tells a story' - this is to make the reader feel relaxed while reading the magazine and make them feel as though they aren't alone in this struggle of mental health. From these subheadings, we could also make out that the target audience may be women as young as 16, and of any ethnicity. This could be because of the feature of the photoshopped butterflies over the cover model, not to mention the model appears to be quite young herself.
