Cosmopolitan

Cosmopolitan is an international fashion and entertainment magazine for women that was formerly titled The Cosmopolitan. Cosmopolitan magazine is one of the best-selling magazines and is directed mainly toward women readers.

Cover- The front cover of this issue of cosmopolitan reflects the mags fashion and entertainment genre. The subheadings reflect the different themes and aspects of the magazine, for example, we see “homeless to Hollywood” a entertainment and celeb story, “ worlds best dressed shop” fashion story and stories linking to Jessica alba who we see as the celebrity model. By including her it shows how they rely on celeb endorsement to attract a audience suggesting how they are targeting the mainstreamer- similar to many magazines in this genre . Set in a very clean cut studio- simple pink backdrop all of the focus is directed towards Jessica alba. She is also positioned directly in front of the masthead showing how the magazine values her influence more than the influence of their name- this shows us just how much they rely of celeb endorsement to sell. We can also clearly see the price of the mag which would appeal to a audience as its only cheap- this again is quite large meaning they want it to be seen clearly and is used to draw a potential audience in. We can also see how it tackles typically taboo subjects for a woman's mag like sex and self esteem- which I like, it challenges stereotypes. It also reflects a change in society and how women are taking a ownership in how they are portrayed.

YouTube platform-

Q&A format with largely known pop group little mix. Easy format to attract a audience and to film- not to complicated and doesn't require much attention to watch. Allows the stars personality to shine whilst also promoting the magazine. It’s a modern day version of a formal interview and attracts a larger audience. shows how cosmopolitan as a magazine is evolving and adapting to changes in how we view media as majority by gaining a big online presence. the set up means that they don’t move throughout and there is no interviewer, they ask each other the questions feels like a conversation between friends- not forced like filmed interviews typically can be. The title of the video talks of marriage which draws in fans of the group however not in a clickbait way as it is spoken about- clever use of a title. The choice of band appeals directly to a target audience of young women and promotes the magazines morals as little mix are a very open group. The social media culture references of "spilling the tea" are included with the teacups and tea party set up. "tea" or "spilling the tea" are phrases used to describe drama or gossip- the target audience will get this and will be attracted by it.
