Hello! - Magazines Research

Hello! is a royalist weekly magazine specializing in celebrity news and human-interest stories.

On the Hello! website it says that ''HELLO! brings you the latest celebrity & royal news from the UK & around the world, magazine exclusives, fashion, beauty, lifestyle news, celeb babies''. From the magazines content I would say that from Young and Rubicam's 4C's model, the audience would be mainstreamers as the core motivation for ‘the mainstream’ is security.

TEXT 1 - MAGAZINE COVER

Analysis of magazine cover

The masthead for Hello! is always the same and appears in the top left hand corner of the page, therefore the brand is always recognisable to the consumer. Furthermore, the white colouring of the letters contrasting to the vibrant red background create a dramatic and urgent effect and this also adds a sense of professionalism as it is consistently the same throughout all of their magazines. ''Welcome to the world baby Cambridge'' is in a bold, large font in capital letters which draws attention to the magazine and makes this news seem relevant, major and exciting to the reader. This front cover is dedicated specifically to the birth of Prince George and that is made clear by the large image of Kate and William after his birth and the smaller image which links to the main story. Additionally, quotes from both William and Kate are included to show the reader the type of things that will be included in the magazine and overall what to expect. Compared to other editions of Hello!, this one is overly simplistic, however, I think this was a stylistic approach in order to demonstrate the importance of the event, by not overcrowding the front page.

TEXT 2 - HELLO! WEBSITE

Analysis of website

Compared to other magazine websites which focus on fashion or beauty such as Vogue and Elle, the Hello! website is much more chaotic and vibrant with lots of things to explore. Readers have the option to choose from categories such as celebrities, royalty, fashion, beauty, tv & film etc. A convention of magazine websites is that they often have the same style as their physical magazine copy so that the brand remains the same both on and offline and so that loyal readers can recognise them, this also applies for Hello!.

Furthermore, as well as the general categories, the website also includes a section titled 'Hot topics' which directs the reader to the most popular people and topics at the moment. This gives the website a sense of relevancy as the audience is able to keep up to date with the latest things. Finally, this website allows the reader to subscribe and become a loyal follower and also helps Hello! themselves to see what type of people their readers are and ultimately cater for them better.
