Christmas adverts are constantly involving over time, each year and improving their Christmas spirit within the adverts, to try and make their advert 'the best' out of all the other adverts that are being released at the same time and provide viewers with the sense of happiness and Christmas spirit while watching it.
I chose the 'Sainsburys Christmas 2024 advert', because it provides a film side and Christmas side of the advert. It features the main character from the family adventure movie 'The BFG', connecting both references of food within the movie and also the supermarket itself, Sainsburys. The Christmas side of the advert presents the 'Classic Christmas food' usually on people's plates on Christmas day such as, 'pigs in blankets, prawn cocktails' etc, but instead of pronouncing them properly, he says 'wigs in blankets' and 'prawn coat-tails' making the audience possibly laugh, because that's how his character talks in the movie. It suggests all three main things the advert is trying to achieve, the movie, Christmas and Sainsburys.
A younger audience will enjoy this type of advert because The BFG is a family friendly movie that they may enjoy the character and find him comforting. My can be supported by this evidence on the advert's Youtube video, a mum of daughters commented this: "Just reading the book to my daughters. They usually hate it when the adverts come on but I know they’ll love this one. Well done Sainsbury’s. Happy Christmas to all the staff!" - providing an almost 'permission' from adults with children and their 'ideal' Christmas advert has been made with a simple reminder of a good movie.
