Look Magazine is a women's fashion and beauty magazine which targets itself at working class people aged 18-30 year olds. An appeal of the magazine is the fact that it tells its reader where they can buy the clothing which celebrities wear, often at affordable prices. It also comes with deals and offers, such as discount vouchers for high street stores. Personally I don't think I would include these offers on my front cover as it makes the magazine feel cheap and generic, but I may possibly include it as a feature in my double page spread.
The inside of the magazine is as equally cluttered as the front cover; it is overflowing with information and seems to have no set layout or style. Again, this is not something I would like to use in my magazine, as I prefer magazines which have a very uniform feel with regards to their layout, but I feel as though this is an appeal for their target market; it feels low-budget, because it is.
The use of paparazzi pictures which seem rather unflattering is another thing I would avoid including in my magazine due to the fact that I feel that the magazine should be celebrating women and women's fashion; something 'Look' magazine simply does not do.
The magazines youtube channel features a number of reviews and short videos discussing celebrity culture; this particular video was of interest to me because I want to centre my magazine around makeup. Again, the magazine/video felt quite thrown together and low-budget- the presenter (who is an editor for the magazine) was really ill-informed about the products and the creator of it (from really simple things like saying Kat Von D appeared on 'Miami Ink' when she actually found fame on 'LA Ink', to not knowing how long the brand had been around for). What's more, her presentation wasn't to the standard which you would expect from a beauty/fashion magazine; simple things like clipping back stray pieces of hair or making sure HER makeup was actually blended in so you couldn't see harsh contour lines, would have dramatically improved the video. This video has reinforced the fact that presentation is key; if I were a consumer, would I want to take fashion advice from someone who looked / dressed like me?
As well as this, not much content was covered in the video and honestly, she was just telling the audience the basics about the product- which 90% of females would already know.
