Elle, women’s fashion magazine founded in France in 1945 by Pierre Lazareff and his wife Hélène Gordon, gained Its name is the French word for “she.” Elle features articles on fashion, beauty, and style but also covers fitness and health, food, travel, relationships, celebrity culture, and current art, music, and books. The magazine also serves as a shopping guide for designer clothing, jewelry, skin products, and beauty merchandise. Its yearly Elle Style Awards honor the world’s most stylish celebrities. Elle is generally considered one of the world’s most sophisticated fashion magazines alongside vogue. It is owned by Hearst. Hearst is a leading global, diversified information, services and media company with operations in 40 countries.


The target audience of this magazine is sophisticated women with ages ranging from around early 20s-40s, similar to other fashion magazines on the market. From the 4C's model the psychographic audience would be both aspirers and succeeders.

Text One: Elle Front Cover

Analysis of front cover-

All of the Elle front covers consist of a woman with a confident but serious pose. They also typically have a plain background so that the model and subheadings stand out to the reader, however all the front covers give out a busy and hectic feeling. The quality of photography and storytelling makes ELLE a trusted authority for consumers and a go-to partner for celebrity, fashion and beauty exclusives. This front cover stars Kate Upton who is an American model. The subheading "Hello Sexy!" gives connotations to the vibe of Elle as a whole. Every magazine cover from Elle creates a sense of mature women in touch with their femininity. The red in Kates dress is appealing to the eye as it gives a high fashion and minimalistic approach to a fashion magazine. This magazine aims towards the targeted audience and definitely gives off an empowering feeling to it.

Text Two: ELLE interview with Huda Beauty

In this interview with Huda Kattan, the owner of Huda beauty, ELLE magazine asks her quite personal questions about her life growing up and about how she feels comfortable in her own skin. These questions create the persona that ELLE magazine supports all different kind of people no matter their background. It also creates the feeling that even though ELLE is a high fashion magazine, it is a place for people to feel accepted and a part of a different form of beauty away from the normal stereotype. It also creates that powerful feeling for women as she talks about building her own business. They asked these questions to show how they want to inspire women to explore and celebrate style in all aspects of their lives with content that is inclusive and innovative.
