A24 is an American independent film company. Founded in 2012 and based out of Manhattan, New York, A24 was defiantly a late arrival to the film scene. Arguably the most successful film to shoot out of A24's production line was Moonlight which released late 2016. This earned the production company a small sum of 64 million dollars. Compared to the latest conglomerate produced movie to hit the cinema, Avatar 2, which made a whopping 2 billion dollars at the box office. Therefore, it is clear that Curran and Seaton's point that these big conglomerates are primary driven by profit and power, hence the sequel to Avatar and the attachment to franchising too conforming to the idea that media concentration generally limits of inhibits creativity or quality.
This links neatly with the ideas of David Hesmondhalgh and the idea that companies try to minimize risk and maximize profit through vertical and horizontal integration, a prime example of where this idea is being put into practice is with Disney. A24 likes to use generally 'unrecognizable' actors opposed to Disney who would much rather use a pre established star such as The Rock which again minimizes risk for Disney.
