Online article from 'The Guardian' newspaper- The images used in this article provide the audience with a representation of Miley as a vulgar, controversial young woman. This is represented through her lack of clothing and the manner in which she is seen to be dancing in the small screenshot of the video clip included. The lack of clothing may represent to the audience that this is the way that Miley now wants to represent herself. This suggests that Miley is growing and transforming as an artist by opposing to her past image or the main character she is most famous for playing, Hannah Montana. By appearing to be wearing a nude toned outfit, it provides us with the representation that she wants too show herself for who she really is, no extravagant outfits to distract the audience from her music. However, this could also be argued that her outfit choice is a way of gaining publicity for her music, due to the controversy it will cause.

The encoders of this text, in this case the editors and journalists at the Guardian, have aimed to represent Miley as a negative influence and an almost offensive figure. The text uses words and phrases such as 'criticised', 'raunchy' , 'manipulating' and 'sexually exploit'. Each of these phrases have severely negative connotations of an almost psychotic or criminal nature. This allows the article to push a representation of Miley using shock tactics to draw the attention of the audience.

The article also repeatedly refers to Miley's past involvement with media and her past representations in order to make a comparison between them. This is shown when the article says 'former child star' and 'family- friendly Hannah Montana'. This is used to briefly imply that like many other former child stars, Miley is heading down a route of ruining her career due to receiving the pressures of celebrity life at such a young age.

This 2017 front cover of BAZAAR magazines shows a completely different side to Miley Cyrus compared to the Guardian article, at the VMA awards back in 2013. In this front cover we see a very natural looking version of Miley Cyrus, implying a sense of innocence. The use of no make-up may imply that in the magazine article she may reveal the 'real' her. Another indication of this is the text on the picture, 'MILEY UNCENSORED'. Connotations of this is that Miley's song are known to have explicit language in them leading the words to be bleeped out or censored when played on the radio or shown on television. Showing representations that this is the real Miley and not the performer we know her as. The theme to this front cover has a natural feel to it by expressing nature, they do this by crowning Miley with a flower crown and the background of grass opposing to her iconic outfits that she wears on stage. The child like position and facial expression is an act to reveal the truth.

Since the release of her single 'Malibu' Miley Cyrus has proved to the public that she's embarking on her latest change as an artist by stripping things down and going back to her roots. In the interview, Cyrus explains that her departure from her Bangerz/ Dead Petz days are over and why she believes its important to change, which she says she has been doing all her life. She claimed tht she just wants people to see that this is who i am now, explaining the very natural looking front cover.

The front cover of Miley's album, Bangerz. The image shows the audience a medium long shot of Miley standing central of the album. The clothing she is wearing consists of a black leather blazer jacket, with her hands gripping the jacket. Some audiences may see this outfit to be 'skimpy' or too 'revealing'. This adds a sex appeal and makes it desirable to audiences. It also implies that if you listen to the album then she will 'reveal' herself to you but if you don't then you are left to question who Miley is.

Her outfit also makes her look like a strong female artist, especially the position she is holding by looking powerful and independent. This represents females positively because it shows they are not timid girly girls which they are stereotyped to be. This adds to the mysterious effect that i believe she is trying to portray. The use of her looking mysterious and provocative, will appeal to teenagers and young adults. Due to her typical target audience being girls, this is an effective way to try and target boys as well by appealing to be desirable.

During 2013, Miley's red lipstick was iconic especially in her video if 'Wrecking ball'. The use of red lipstick makes the emotion on her face stand out more. Her facial expression i quite fierce, which could link to some of the songs on the album.

The editing of the image looks low budget and you can see the crops where she has been cropped out. I believe that this has been done deliberately, it allows her to stand out form the background- making her the main focus. It is also a way to show she is unique and original, not like every other typical pop artist. The signs which have been edited in is commonly used outside clubs and bars in order to draw in the public's attention as they flash. Clubs are typically for young people and could therefore be metaphorical for her'flashing her sign' to draw in her target audience. Around the image of her there is a lot of empty space. She has used a colour scheme of an ombre of purple and pink and blue. This almost looks like a sunset on the horizon, which could aid her holiday theme of the album and having fun. Also by filling her album with colour instead of loads of pictures, it could suggest that she isn't focusing on how the cover looks, what is more important is the music within the CD.

In July 2018, Miley deleted all her posts of her Instagram and claimed that she was taking a long needed break from social media. Fans was shocked to see that she had removed all posts and videos from her accounts and she said that she is looking forward to showing off her new changes she has made. She felt that this was healthy for her and wanted to 'start again' as she said in other interviews that she thinks its important to change.
