Nuclear Blast

Nuclear Blast is a record label and mail order record distributor with subsidiaries in Germany, the United States and Brazil. The label was founded in 1987 by Markus Staiger in Germany. Originally releasing hardcore punk records, the label moved on to releasing albums by thrash metal, melodic death metal, grindcore, industrial metal, power metal and black metal bands, as well as tribute albums. Some bands under the label consist of: Slayer, Exodus, Testament, Anthrax, Kreator, Overkill, Sepultura.

Curran and Seaton's power and media industries theory states that the media is owned by large conglomerates, resulting in lack of creativity and thought. They state that they would produce repetitive products that they know will sell because it will make a profit and gain the owners of these companies power. However they also state that more socially diverse patterns of ownership help to create the conditions for a more varied and adventurous outcomes. Nuclear Blast achieves this by giving a platform to genres of music and different talents that otherwise, alongside the other smaller record labels that started out in the 80's also, wouldn't have.
