PSB or not PSB, that is the question.

I'll keep this short - should we still be paying for the BBC, should the BBC even exist. Since the general election back in December there are a lot of uncertainties about the future of the world's oldest broadcaster.

Whilst I feel the BBC is far from perfect, this vlog is my defence of our 97 year old Aunty.

The Guardian article I mention that discusses the license fee can be read by clicking here.

Is Aunty getting too old to be relevant?

  1. In my opinion, I believe that we should keep licensing fees, but put in place new regulations around the topic, as the BBC aim to reach and cater everyone and they cannot do that without the appropriate funding, so getting rid of it would generate a problem. However, I believe that people who receive benefits, over 75s and people with disability should receive a smaller price or no price at all to a licensing fee. I think this because disability, benefits and pension may not pay enough to fund this and it is unfair to people who may not be able to work the adequate times to fund this without putting their essential shopping at risk. especially with the quote…

I believe that the BBC should get rid of licence fees, in order to widen their audience to people who couldn't previously afford the license and to reduce the amount of fines put on people for not paying the TV license. In this modern society that we live in, we could do just fine avoiding the BBC in general, it is not a necessary part of our lives like it used to be when there were limited channels available. Although adverts are no the most convenient and annoy many people, I think that they would be a better alternative to the TV license as people would rather watch a few adverts if it allowed them to enjoy tv without the…

The BBC licensing fee should be scrapped as it is not essential for everyone, but everyone with a TV must pay to fund it, despite not watching it. There are arguments to say it should be funded by general taxation – but this would mean even people without a TV would have to pay. In an Express article, it says that ministers are considering a new funding model that would require only people who use the BBC to pay for it – this would be more suitable as people are not paying for something that they don’t need. However, the funds may be lower, and the BBC may have to reduce costs on the variety of programmes they produce. Therefore, the…

I believe that the best decision for the BBC is to remove the licence fee all together since the news is something which everybody should be able to access and it is unfair to charge people for it, especially when people may not be able to afford it. However, I do realise by removing the fee this could mean the BBC will most likely have to resort to other ways of earning the funds such as advertising which they have been praised for not using third-party advertisements. Which is found on the Pros section on this website; https://www.theweek.co.uk/100920/the-pros-and-cons-of-the-tv-licence

However, if they are unable to completely remove the licence fee, at the very least they should reduce the amount so that…

My opinions on the BBC licence fee and the bbc its self are mostly negative due to several mitigating factors, however as a strong supported of scrapping the licence fee I can recognise a few of the consequences this would have and even point to many departments within the BBC.

Firstly I will lay out my reasons for the scrapping of the licence fee.

It had been long known at the BBC that during his time as a brordcaster and personality for the BBC, childrens entertainer Jimmy Savile misused his status in the orgonisation to abuse many young children both sexually and physically. The BBCs knowledge of this discusts me greatly considering it is a public orgonisation. It is estimated…
