The history of the British Labour party dates to its formation in the 1900’s. Ever since its Construction, Labour has been shrouded in controversy. The media capitalizes on such disputes to display Labour in a range of contexts. Today, I am going to mainly focus on the Corbyn era of Labour 2015 to 2020.
Left wing socialist Jeremy Corbyn has often been portrayed by right wing newspapers as ‘Too Socialist’ or ‘Substandard’ The Article I have posted below is a write up for the Sun’s newspaper titled “Jeremy Corbyn is the most dangerous man ever to stand for high office in Britain — use your vote to stop him”. In this article The Sun repeatedly makes attempts to undermine and unhinge Corbyn’s campaign describing the Ex-Labour leader as a “Moral Threat” to our economy. The Sun is constantly striving to condemn the Socialist views of Corbyn, with lines like “Shameless stitch up” for his surrender treaty. Throughout the article the sun makes direct strikes and throw unsupported loathe towards Corbyn and his campaign.
The next Article is a headline paper from The Guardian “Jeremy Corbyn ‘I don’t do personal’. The Guardian is a left-wing newspaper in support of Corbyn. Calling him a “Man of the people” This shows greatly the contrast in how one man is represented differently due to his political position. The Guardian says “Corbyn Is an unlikely leader, So devoted”. Unlike The Sun, this left-wing article is supportive of Jeremy.
In conclusion, it is clear to see how dependent on somebody’s views, their idea on a person can change and have a deadly impact on how they choose to represent them. It is seen here for Corbyn. Love him or hate him, the drastic change in views is clear! For me personally, it raises the question "Is my news consumption really reliable?"
