Representations and Stereotyping within the media & BLM

Stereotypes are widespread in all different kinds of media. To stereotype is to misjudge someone based on common beliefs or ideas. Stereotypes can be found in all aspects of media from newspapers and tv shows to social media and digital articles. We base our opinions on people we have never met before using generic stereotypes.

Some Stereotypes Include...

All girls like pink and all boys like blue

All Asians are good at math

All terrorists are Muslim...

(Video explaining more on the topic)

All these stereotypes are harmful to the person on the receiving end. These stereotypes can have real effects on people and even their culture.

This harm can be short lived or for an extended period of time.

My Opinion

In my opinion i believe that stereotypes are dangerous and often harmful to the receiver, and it is wrong to sort people in these category's.

Black Lives Matter

#BLM was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martins Murderer. Although what BLM do is having a real effect on our outlook and how we

and the media stereotype and represent people some media outlets have used the Black Lives Matter protest to misrepresent the group. More prominent figures in our society such as Donald trump has voiced his harsh idea and misrepresentation of the BLM movement. Donald Trump publicly

posted calling the Party "thugs", "terrorists" and "anarchists". Other presidents have voiced their opinion on the movement such as Joe Biden saying, "They are not peaceful protesters" These simple quotes can misrepresent the movement and discredit them harming their representation.
